Q&A: Julia Ricketti

How would you tell someone who had never been to Nantucket to spend a day?

I do the same thing every day – wake up, go on a long walk, and grab breakfast in town. Born & Bread is my favorite stop, followed by coffee from For Now. I’m usually staying at an Airbnb or hotel in town, so I’ll head back after breakfast to get ready for the beach. My favorite is Jetties because I love the SandBar restaurant for lunch! After a long day on the water, I’ll get ready for an early cocktail hour at Sister Ship at the Faraway Hotel before dinner at Lola 41. These days, I’m usually straight to bed after dinner. :)

How would you describe the overall vibe of Nantucket?

It’s true what they say, that everyone's on island time. From the minute you step onto the ferry, you feel relaxed – everyone just wants to enjoy themselves. For me, it’s about eating great food, sipping on drinks, and enjoying time with my family and friends.

What is your favorite memory of Nantucket?

Three years ago, I came out Memorial Day Weekend for my best friend’s birthday. That’s also Figawi Race Weekend, which means there are tons of visitors. The island really comes alive. We have since made going out this weekend into a tradition, and the crowd gets bigger every year. I try to visit the island a few times throughout the summer but her birthday weekend has become my favorite.

How is your capsule inspired by Nantucket?

I was inspired by the classic timeline pieces you see throughout the island. When I’m out there, I spend the day doing activities like hanging out on a boat or bike riding, so I wanted a one-piece that I could live in all day. It’s a chic and structured suit that strikes the balance between comfort and style. The other piece in my collection brings through color, which drew inspiration from the hydrangeas you’ll find throughout the island.

Anything else unique or special about Nantucket that you want people to know?

Swimwear can be tricky because you just want to feel good. Everything in this collection is a flattering, staple piece. The patterns feel youthful and fun, while the solid is classic. When it comes to fashion, I usually wear neutrals but I like to step out of my comfort zone with swimwear. I hope these suits make people feel as great as I know they’ll look.
